[Problem] To provide a mechanical seal which does not leak when at rest, operates with fluid lubrication during rotation including the beginning of rotation while preventing leaking, and enables both sealing and lubrication. [Solution] A mechanical seal characterized in that multiple sealed fluid accommodating blocks which are separated in the circumferential direction are formed on the sliding surface of a fixed ring or the sliding surface of a rotating ring so as to communicate with a sealed fluid accommodating space, with pumping parts that produce a pumping action due to the relative rotational sliding of the fixed ring and the rotating ring being formed at the bottom of the multiple sealed fluid accommodating blocks, and with the pumping parts formed at the bottom of the multiple sealed fluid accommodating blocks including suction pumping parts which move the sealed fluid in the suction direction and discharge pumping parts which move the sealed fluid in the discharge direction. |
