PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a piezoelectric element that can decrease output voltage for detection relative to input voltage for driving without requiring a step-down circuit between a detection phase electrode and a phase comparator, and also provide an oscillatory wave motor using the same.

SOLUTION: A piezoelectric element includes a piezoelectric material sandwiched between electrodes, namely, a common electrode disposed on a first surface of the piezoelectric material and a drive phase electrode and a detection phase electrode disposed on the second surface of the piezoelectric material.
