<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize a structure capable of preventing transfer voids from being conspicuous regardless of the kind of a recording material. <P>SOLUTION: A test chart is formed on a recording material which is the same kind as the recording material on which a user intends to form an image and is read with an image reading part. Then, the amount of toner is controlled on the basis of difference in density within a predetermined area of the test chart. Specifically, when the difference in density is small, the lookup table of (a) before change is hardly changed like (b). On the other hand, when the difference in density is large, that is, irregularities on the surface of the recording material are comparatively large, the lookup table is changed so that an output signal in response to an input signal is made large like (c) and the amount of toner is increased.
