The present invention provides a session establishment method and system. The method comprises: if a UE performs access through a trusted non-3GPP network, after the UE completes authentication in the non-3GPP network, a trusted non-3GPP access gateway, or a 3GPP AAA or a BBF AAA Proxy sending a message to a centralized deployment functional architecture (BPCF), the message indicating that it is unnecessary to establish an S9* session; and upon receiving the message, the BPCF determining, according to the indication carried in the message, that it is unnecessary to establish an S9* session with a policy and charging rules function (PCRF). By means of the present invention, the reliability of session establishment is improved.
