<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a high-bandwidth multimode optical fiber used for high radiation. <P>SOLUTION: A multimode optical fiber includes a central core and outer cladding. The central core of the optical fiber is a depressed central core that has an alpha refractive-index distribution and has a maximum refractive index difference Δn<SB POS="POST">1</SB>between an outer radius r<SB POS="POST">1</SB>and the outer cladding. The alpha refractive-index distribution of the central core has a minimum refractive index corresponding to a refractive index difference Δn<SB POS="POST">end</SB>from the outer cladding, in the case of the outer radius r<SB POS="POST">1</SB>of the central core. The optical fiber can include inner cladding that has the refractive index difference Δn<SB POS="POST">2</SB>from among an outer radius r<SB POS="POST">2</SB>, a width w<SB POS="POST">2</SB>, and the outer cladding. And, the optical fiber can include an embedded trench that has the refractive index difference Δn<SB POS="POST">3</SB>from among a width w<SB POS="POST">3</SB>, an outer radius r<SB POS="POST">3</SB>, and the outer cladding.
