<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a portable power work machine capable of firmly fixing a machine body when starting an engine and capable of relatively easily and smoothly performing the starting of the engine by means of a recoil starter. <P>SOLUTION: A starting ladder 50 is joined with hinge to the vicinity of the lower end of a rear end part of a body housing 12. In a state that the machine body is grounded to start the engine, the starting ladder 50 can take the fallen-sideward state projecting in the rear side of the body housing 12 and, meanwhile, is regulated so as not to be relatively turned in the direction of drooping downward from the fallen-sideward state.
