PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technique that reduces power consumption of an image forming apparatus as compared to the case where a plurality of human detection means are kept active all the time for human detection.

SOLUTION: An image forming apparatus is provided which includes; a first human detector 600 for detecting a human in a region obliquely downward with respect to the horizontal plane of the image forming apparatus; a second human detector 700, which requires more power than the first human detector 600, for detecting a human in a region above the detection region of the first human detector 600; and a determination unit 740 for commanding the second human detector 700 to return to a normal state from a power-saving state when the first human detector 600 detects a human while the image forming apparatus is in the power-saving mode.
