The circuit (1) has a shared buffer capacitor (7) coupled between input lines (2, 3). A controller clocks four switches (S1-S4) e.g. MOSFETs, of a series circuit (10) to provide equal voltages successively between two intermediate points (12, 13) with different potentials relative to a midpoint (8) of the shared buffer capacitor. The controller clocks eight switches of inverter sub circuits (14) to form alternating current (AC). The midpoint of the shared buffer capacitor is connected with a midpoint (11) between the two of four switches of the series circuit. An independent claim is also included for a method for operating an inverter circuit for forming AC.
