A method and access terminal apparatus wherein the access terminal determines a first identifier for establishing communication with an access point, determines the type of the first identifier and whether confusion occurs, and determines, based on the type of the first identifier, a second identifier for establishing communication with the access point autonomously without instructions by an external node.
