A generator collector ventilation system 14 includes ducts that are formed in a support foundation 14 of the generator. A ventilation inlet duct 20 and a ventilation outlet duct 22. direct ventilation fluid into and from a generator collector housing 44. A silencer module 50,52 is arranged in one of the ducts and conditions the ventilation fluid to lower an overall noise signature of the generator collector ventilation system 14. The silencer module can be in both inlet and outlet ducts and located at either end of each (fig 8). The silencer module can be a single flow silencer having a side portion lined with sound absorbing material (fig 3,70). The silencer can be a double flow module having first and second flow portions (fig 7, 116, 117) connected to the inlet and outlet ducts.
