<p>A method of anonymising data comprises reading parameters of an anonymisation procedure from a configurable anonymisation procedure resource; receiving data to be anonymised from a data source; and applying one or more transformations to the received data according to the anonymisation procedure, thus transforming an original portion into a transformed portion. The original portion may be recoverable from the transformed portion (the transformation might be reversible) using stored information. The transformation might comprise encrypting the original portion of data, wherein the stored information comprises cryptographic material (decryption keys). The transformation might alternatively comprise hashing, redacting, filtering, replacing and masking the data. The transformed portion may be in the same format as the original portion. This method helps protect private, personal or sensitive information before being sent to third parties. Third parties may edit or use data in the transformed portion without being aware of private data in the original portion.</p> |
