<p>1313468 Asphalt paving machines; releasable fastenings SCHNEIDER-SIMPSON INC 28 May 1971 [15 June 1970] 17871/71 Headings E1G and E2B [Also in Division F2] Hollow box section extension units for the screed bar of an asphalt paving machine are releasably interconnected by links 51-54 which pass round rotatable cylinders 61-64 mounted on axially offset shafts 35 and 36 on one unit and round fixed spigots 41-44 in the opposite end of the other units, the lower links first being positioned, then a temporary coupling made by hinged strap plate 74 onto a stud 76, next the upper links are positioned and finally the shafts 35 and 36 are rotated to press the units together. The shafts are held in the tensioned position by locking studs 47 and 48 passing through holes in plates 37A and 38A mounted thereon and into holes 49 in the top of the unit. Each unit comprises to interconnected channels 30 and 31. Adjusting devices 81-84 are provided for levelling the lower face of the screed bar. The extension units have opposite arcuate edges 30R and 30F so that they can be used either side of the main bar to minimize wear. The units may be attached to the main bar by a small unit corresponding to the back end of a whole unit, or a whole unit (per se) which is welded to the main bar. The final extension unit has an end plate bolted thereto. Hot gases are circulated through the units to heat the asphalt.</p> |
