A fast channel change (FCC) method comprises: receiving at least one transport stream (TS) including an aggregated video service (AVS) 16 and plural TV channels 18, the AVS including video frames 64, each having some of the video data of first and second TV channels; demultiplexing 34 the first TV channel and the AVS from the TS; buffering 38 AVS frames, with plural random access points (RAPs, e.g. I-frames) 66, buffering a latest RAP and video frames dependent upon this for decoding purposes, and purging older video frames; decoding the video data of the first TV channel; receiving a subscriber command to change from the first to the second TV channel; switching from decoding the first TV channel to decoding 42 the buffered AVS video frames; extracting 44, 94 (lower quality) second TV channel data 50 from the decoded AVS video frames, yielding full-screen video for display; demultiplexing the second TV channel from the TS, and; switching from decoding video frames of the AVS to decoding the second TV channel. Aggregated video frames may be formatted as a mosaic. Further presentation time stamp (PTS)-based, cropping, enlargement, and security processing may be performed. |
