A storage apparatus comprises: a storage unit which stores data; and a controller for controlling a virtual volume which is realized using the storage unit, wherein when the controller receives an instruction for copying data of the virtual volume to a copy destination virtual volume of a copy destination apparatus connected to the storage apparatus, in a case where both the virtual volume and the copy destination virtual volume are variable allocation virtual volumes to which the storage unit is variably allocated in accordance with a usage pattern of the virtual volume and the storage unit is not allocated to a copy target area of the virtual volume which is a copy source, the controller transmits data that can recognize an initial address and a block length of the copy target area to the copy destination apparatus, and in a case where at least one of the virtual volume and the copy destination virtual volume is not the variable allocation virtual volume or the storage unit is allocated to the copy target area of the virtual volume which is a copy source, the controller transmits data stored in the copy target area to the copy destination apparatus. |
