The method involves detecting a characteristic of the sensor by comparing the measured values of the sensor with measured values of a reference sensor with known characteristics. The measured value sequences of the sensor and measured value sequences of the reference sensor are brought into phase with each other. An independent claim is also included for a device for determining a correction value.
