A method and an apparatus for compensating a line defect of a flat panel display device are provided to compensate luminance of a black line perfectly by modulating digital video data to be displayed on a black line and a white line by using a determined compensation value. Upper and lower plates are fabricated(S1,S2) and then attached with a sealant or a frit glass(S3). A test image is displayed, and luminance and chrominance of the entire display surface are measured by performing an electrical inspection with a detecting device and/or through eye inspection(S4). If a black line is found(S5), the position and luminance of the black line are analyzed(S6). Position data indicating positions of each pixel of the black line and black line compensation values are stored in a memory(S7,S8). If a black line is not seen on the entire display surface, it is checked whether a white line is seen(S9). If a white line is found, the position and luminance of the white line are analyzed(S10). Position data indicating positions of each pixel of the white line and white line compensation values are stored in the memory(S11,S12). |
