The invention relates to a process for the preparation of modified yellow iron oxide with variable degree of dispersion, enhanced pigment characteristics and thermal fastness. The process involves thermohydrolysis of iron-containing raw material at a temperature of 80-, continuous stirring and air oxygen blowing for 100-120 minutes, product modification, solid phase dewatering by filtration, washing, drying and dispergation.
