PURPOSE: An abstract data generator for an electronic book or an electronic note and a method thereof are provided to enable a user to easily obtain the content of the electronic book or the electronic note by generating abstract data. CONSTITUTION: An input data recognizing unit(140) recognizes a type of input data. A text area extracting unit(150) extracts a text area within an electronic book or an electronic note according to the type of the input data. An abstract data generator(160) generates abstract data including the text area. A control unit(100) stores page information for the extracted text area according to the type of the input data. The control unit generates the abstract data by using the page information for the text area when the generation of the abstract data is requested.
