Optical measuring instruments detect the print image-referred pass mark. A control device evaluates a layer of the plate cylinder-specific zero-reference mark to the print image-referred pass mark such that the control device outputs control signals to a positioning device (11) for layer correction of the print plate on the plate cylinder. #CMT# : #/CMT# An independent claim is also included for a method for aligning print plates. #CMT#USE : #/CMT# Printing machine i.e. sheet-fed offset machine.
