PURPOSE: A disk input or output layer architecture is provided to enable a user to effectively control a memory based storage unit or device. CONSTITUTION: A buffer cache layer(612) is adjacent to a file system layer. An input or output scheduler layer(616) and a device driver layer(618) are adjacent to the buffer cache layer. A storage unit layer(620) is adjacent to the block device driver layer. The storage unit layer includes an SSD memory unit set. The file system layer processes user data. The buffer cache layer processes page data. The block device driver layer processes block data.
