A motor-compressor unit of the sealed type for refrigerating systems, in which an electric DC motor 16 and a compressor 18 driven by reciprocating motion are arranged in separate chambers 28, 13 communicating with each other through an annular filter element 72 of sintered zinc. The driving torque from the motor is transmitted to the compressor via a circular, eccentric cam 62 engaging in a semi-circular cutout in a shoe 66 sliding along the base of the compressor piston 58.
