The method involves starting a fuel cell i.e. polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cell, by supplying air to cathode chambers (5.1, 5.2) and fuel to anode chambers (4.1, 4.2), where the anode chamber is supplied with oxygen-depleted air. The fuel cell is divided into two partial sections (3.1, 3.2) where one of the sections is operated, such that the oxygen-depleted air is fed to the anode chambers of another section. The latter section is operated such that the fuel is supplied to the anode chambers of the latter section after supply of exhaust air from the former section. An independent claim is also included for a fuel cell. |
