The method involves varying size (D) of an airgap (L) between a stator (4) and a rotor (6) by changing a rotor position with respect to a stator position for adjusting power of an electric machine (1). The rotor is rotatable around a rotational axis (5) relative to the stator, where the airgap extends in an axial section below an angle of approximately 40 degrees with respect to direction of the rotational axis. The stator is formed by an iron core (2) and a stator winding (3). The stator is displaceable relative to the rotor. An independent claim is also included for an electric machine.
