<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light source apparatus which can restrict blackening of a discharge lamp and maintain a constant inter-electrode distance while driving the discharge lamp, a discharge lamp drive method, and a projector. <P>SOLUTION: A light source apparatus 1 comprises: a discharge lamp 500; a drive device 200 which supplies drive current to a pair of electrodes 610, 710 of the discharge lamp 500; and an inter-electrode distance detection part which detects the distance between the pair of electrodes. The drive device 200 generates an AC current whose frequency is 1 kHz to 10 GHz, both ends inclusive, and is configured to be able to generate drive current from AC current by amplitude modulation so that a first interval of AC current and a second interval smaller in amplitude than the first interval repeat alternately, in which a modulation frequency of the amplitude modulation is set to 10 Hz to 1 kHz, both ends inclusive, and depending on the detection result of the inter-electrode distance detection part, the modulation frequency is altered or the amplitude modulation is halted. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2013,JPO&INPIT |
