<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide polyvinyl alcohol emulsion-type polychloroprene latex which is excellent in water resistance and suitable for a water-based adhesive which is required to be high in water-resistant adhesion; to provide a method for producing the same; and to provide a water-based adhesive. <P>SOLUTION: Chloroprene is subjected, alone or together with other monomers, to emulsion polymerization in the presence of polyvinyl alcohol having a carboxy group in the molecule to gain chloroprene latex.
