<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve transmission efficiency of an optical transmission system. <P>SOLUTION: A relay device 7, which relays an optical signal transmitted and received to/from an optical line terminal 3 from/to one or more optical network units 42 and 52, receives optical signals input from the optical network units 42 and 52 via optical splitters 6-2, 6-21 and 6-22, converts the received optical signals having a first transmission rate into the optical signals having a second transmission rate that is faster than the first transmission rate, and outputs the converted optical signals to the optical line terminal 3 side. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2013,JPO&INPIT |
