<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect focuses for a plurality of distances by analyzing a perspective conflict when focus detection results in a phase difference AF method conflict in the distances. <P>SOLUTION: A focus detection device includes: a first focus detection means (404) for detecting a focus state from the phase difference in two images of a subject; a reliability determination means (406) for determining the reliability of the focus state by the first focus detection means; a pixel selection means (408) for selecting a pixel range for focus detection among the pixels constituting a sensor of the first focus detection means; a second focus detection means (408) for detecting the focus state from the phase difference by using the signal of a selected pixel range by the pixel selection means; and a third focus detection means (408) for detecting the contrast in a subject frame.
