<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide techniques for performing detection and decoding with reduced complexity while achieving good performance for a MIMO receiver. <P>SOLUTION: Spatial processing is performed on a set of received symbols (812). Extrinsic LLRs are computed independently for each of at least one data symbol on the basis of a corresponding detected symbol and a priori LLRs, if any, from a decoder (814). A list of candidate hypotheses is determined for the remaining data symbols by performing a search using LSD, etc. (816). Extrinsic LLRs are computed for the remaining data symbols with the list of candidate hypotheses (818). The extrinsic LLRs for all the data symbols are decoded to obtain a priori LLRs for a detector (820). A determination is made whether to perform iteration (822).
