An organic EL(electro-luminescence) device is provided to increase brightness of the EL device by increasing a critical angle for a total reflection using a first buffer layer. An organic EL(electro-luminescence) device includes first and second substrates(101,131), a first buffer layer(105), a first electrode(112), an organic light emitting layer(114), and a second electrode(116). The first and second substrates face each other. The first buffer layer is formed on the first substrate and has a first refractive index. The first electrode is formed on the first buffer layer. The organic light emitting layer is formed on the first electrode. The second electrode is formed on the organic light emitting layer. The first refractive index is smaller than that of the material of the first electrode and greater than that of a material of first substrate. |
