摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide: a photoelectric conversion element and a photoelectrochemical cell that exhibit high IPCE in a long-wavelength region, achieve high photoelectric conversion efficiency, and moreover excel in durability; and a dye for use therein. <P>SOLUTION: A photoelectric conversion element comprises a layer structure including, on a conductive substrate, a photoreceptor that has a layer of semiconductor fine particles on which dyes have been adsorbed, a charge-transfer body, and a counter electrode. At least one of the dyes has a structure represented by the following formula (1). (In the formula, Q represents an aromatic ring. X<SP POS="POST">1</SP>and X<SP POS="POST">2</SP>represent sulfur atoms, selenium atoms, oxygen atoms, or CR<SP POS="POST">1</SP>R<SP POS="POST">2</SP>. R<SP POS="POST">1</SP>and R<SP POS="POST">2</SP>represent alkyl groups. R and R' are alkyl groups or aromatic groups. P<SP POS="POST">1</SP>represents a specific group of atoms, and P<SP POS="POST">2</SP>represents a group of atoms necessary to form a polymethine dye, while P<SP POS="POST">1</SP>and P<SP POS="POST">2</SP>are different from one another.
