A recurring problem encountered with the use of track assemblies for track-type vehicles is one of preventing pin drift in the joint connection therefor. Such pin drift primarily results from the severe loads which are imposed on the joint connection during operation of the track assemblies. This invention provides a locking collar (17) which is secured between a pin (16) and a link (14) of a track assembly (10) for preventing such pin drift. In particular, the pin (16) and locking collar (17) have interengaging surfaces (22, 23) formed thereof to prevent relative axial movement therebetween. In carrying forth the method steps of this invention, segments (20) of the locking collar (17) are mounted on the pin (16) and the link (14) is then secured to the locking collar (17). |
