<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress power consumption even in a reading standby mode. <P>SOLUTION: A reader comprises: reading means for reading a document; driving means for driving the reading means; current supply means for supplying current to the driving means; and current supply control means for controlling the on/off of the current supply from the current supply means.
