<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide graphite that can produce high purity and high hardness polycrystalline nanodiamond, and to provide a production method thereof. <P>SOLUTION: The graphite 1 is composed of carbon and a plurality of impurities other than carbon. The concentration of the plurality of impurities is each 0.01 mass% or less; and the graphite is a monolithic solid and includes crystallized parts. The graphite 1 is formable by heating a substrate at a temperature of ≥1,500°C in a vacuum chamber, introducing a hydrocarbon gas with ≥99.99% purity into the vacuum chamber and decomposing the hydrocarbon gas on the substrate. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2013,JPO&INPIT |
