METHOD, APPARATUS AND SYSTEM FOR PERFORMING MULTI-USER VIRTUAL MULTIPLE-INPUT MULTIPLE-OUTPUT (MIMO)

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for performing multi-user virtual multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) in a wireless communication system including a base station and a plurality of wireless transmission/reception units (WTRUs).

SOLUTION: The method includes the steps of: generating a multipath channel matrix between WTRUs and base station antenna groups at a base station; generating an effective channel matrix on the channels between the base station and the WTRUs at the base station; and processing signals received from the WTRUs using the effective channel matrix. The multipath channel matrix includes channel coefficients on the antennas associated with each WTRU and the antennas associated with each base station antenna group of the base station. The effective channel matrix includes the multipath channel matrix on the WTRUs and is an effective multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) channel on a multi-user virtual multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO).
