PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce windup when a linear velocity is accelerated, and to reduce winding slackness when the linear velocity is decelerated.

SOLUTION: A tension apparatus provided on an automatic winding machine for winding a wire around a core includes: a tension pulley that winds up the wire and rotates together with the movement of the wire; a braking torque generator that is connected with the tension pulley to generate and transfer braking torque to the tension pulley; and a wire winding amount adjusting means which adjusts the amount to wind the wire around the tension pulley.
