A radiation absorbent characterized by comprising a carbon nanotube containing particles encapsulated in the hollow space thereof, said particles comprising an atom, a molecule, a compound or a combination thereof and being encapsulated in the hollow space of the carbon nanotube. By encapsulating an element, an inorganic matter or an organic matter having a high radiation absorption capability in the hollow space of the carbon nanotube, a radiation absorbent, which has a capability of highly efficiently absorbing radiation and yet sustains the surface properties of the carbon nanotube, can be provided. The radiation absorbent sustains the surface properties of the carbon nanotube and, therefore, can be added to or mixed with various materials before using. |
