PURPOSE: A strainer for seawater is provided to enable effective operation of the strainer by minimizing unnecessary pressure loss which can occur due to stacked foreign substances in the strainer and to enable maintenance with a minimal work force by executing the maintenance of the strainer automatically. CONSTITUTION: A strainer for seawater comprises a strainer body; a differential pressure gauge; a filter unit(200); a nozzle unit(300); a control unit; a driving unit; and a guide member(600). The differential pressure gauge displays a pressure status in the strainer body. The filter unit comprises a first plane(202), a first inclined surface(203), a second plane(204), a second inclined surface(205) and multiple through-holes(201). The first plane is fixed on a support stand(201a) installed in the strainer body and extends in a transverse direction from one side of the support stand. The first inclined surface is extended to the outside at a predetermined length atan inclined angle from the end of the first plane. The second plane is extended horizontally from the end of the first inclined surface. The second inclined surface is extended inwards with a length corresponding to the first inclined surface at an inclined angle from the end of the second plane. The multiple through-holes are formed on the first plane, the second plane, the first inclined surface, and the second inclined surface to filter foreign substances contained in the seawater. The filter unit is separated at a certain intervals and is bent many times with a cross sectional shape of a square or a ladder. The nozzle unit removes the foreign substances by spraying washing water in different directions of the first plane, the second plane, the first inclined surface, and the second inclined surface.
