<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a core position specification method and an alignment device, which are capable of specifying positions of a plurality of cores in an end surface of a multi-core fiber in a shorter time. <P>SOLUTION: In the core position specification method, a position in one end surface of a multi-core fiber, of one core included in N cores (N is an integer equal to or larger than 2) of the multi-core fiber is specified by rough alignment and fine alignment, and then, a light beam is made incident on predicted positions of (N-1) cores other than the one core on the assumption that the one core is each of N cores, on the basis of preliminarily acquired relative position information on N cores, and a core is determined as one of (N-1) cores if a light intensity in the predicted position of this core in the other end of the multi-core fiber exceeds a prescribed value, and positions of (N-1) cores are estimated in this manner. Each of estimated (N-1) cores is finely aligned, and the position of each of (N-1) cores is specified. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2013,JPO&INPIT |
