<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To achieve a long lasting but highly effective friction stir tool. <P>SOLUTION: The friction stir welding tool includes a welding tip fabricated of a powder metal material. The powder metal material is iron-based, and at least part of the welding tip includes at least one of: (1) a resin; (2) another material having a lower melting point than the iron-based material; and (3) at least one of additions selected from a group including CaF<SB POS="POST">2</SB>, MnS, MoS<SB POS="POST">2</SB>, BN, CaCO<SB POS="POST">3</SB>, SiO<SB POS="POST">2</SB>, Al<SB POS="POST">2</SB>O<SB POS="POST">3</SB>, ceramic, carbide compounds, ferro-nickel, chromium, and an alloy of Cr, Ni, and Co. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2013,JPO&INPIT |
