<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To precisely specify a position and a velocity of a carriage conveyed by means of a belt, using a rotary encoder. <P>SOLUTION: In an image forming apparatus, which keeps a belt 36 wound around a drive pulley 33 and a driven pulley 34 that are rotationally driven by a motor M3, and a carriage 31 coupled to a belt 36, the motor M3 rotationally drives the drive pulley 33, so that the belt 36 rotates to make the carriage then move to the main scanning direction by following this rotation. In the apparatus, when a position and a velocity of the carriage are specified on the basis of an input signal from a rotary encoder E3 that is attached to the rotary shaft of the driven pulley 34, errors may occur due to the influence of the deflection of the belt 36. To cope with the problem, in the image forming apparatus, correction coefficients K are defined for each of an acceleration area, a constant speed area, a deceleration area, and a conveying direction of the carriage. By correcting the position and the velocity of the carriage using the correction coefficients K that correspond to conveyance states, errors due to the deflection are suppressed. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2013,JPO&INPIT |
