<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a UASB (Upflow Anaerobic Sludge Blanket) reactor and a biological nitrification and denitrification apparatus which can be started up in a short time to perform stable operation, and are excellent in performance. <P>SOLUTION: The UASB reactor 20 has curtain-shaped sponge carriers 22a and 22b fixed to a reactor body 25 and sticking and immobilizing microorganisms, and the sponge carriers 22a and 22b are fixed to be detachable from a center part of the reactor body 25 to an upper part. At starting, the sponge carriers 22a and 22b to which the microorganisms are stuck and immobilized is removed from another UASB reractor, and the carriers are attached and used, and therefore, the reactor can be started up in a short time. After granule sludge is sufficiently formed in the UASB reactor 20, the sponge carriers 22a and 22b are removed to be used in another new UASB reactor 20, and thus, the new UASB reactor 20 can be started up in a short time. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2013,JPO&INPIT |
