The sensor device has a sensor unit (16) that detects the size of an elongated structure (10) during its self-oscillation offset. An evaluation device (20) determines length of elongated structure and weight of load (14) based on the values related to force acting on the elongated structure, oil pressure in hydraulic cylinder (26), and oil flow in hydraulic cylinder. Independent claims are included for the following: (1) method for determining variable length of elongated structure; and (2) work machine.
