PURPOSE:To carry out the printing of one line in a short time by maintaining the distance between a head and the printing surface of a printing medium constant by pressing the printing medium against the reference surface of printing with a platen which is caused to move integrally with the print head. CONSTITUTION:Printing operation is started by causing a head shifting motor 8 to rotate counterclckwise and a print head 1 is moved to the right and at the same time, a carriage 11 is moved on a guide belt 20 in the same direction and the same speed by a synchronous belt 27, a follower pulley 24 and a carriage transport belt 26 and the head 1 and a moving platen 16 are moved without changing their relative positions. At the same time, a book 2 is pressed from behind by the platen 16 and the page to be printed is also pressed against the print reference surface of a guide plate 5 and printing is performed by applying an impact to the book 2 by a driven print wire through an opening 5b at the center of a groove 5a provided at the part of the plate 5 opposing to the top end of the head 1. |
