PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an epoxy resin composition excellent in humidity resistance, heat resistance, and mechanical performance such as impact resistance, and suitable for use such as laminating, molding, cast molding, adhesion, etc., an epoxy resin for the use, and its intermediates. SOLUTION: This epoxy resin composition contains as its essential component either one or both of a polyvalent hydroxy resin which is represented by general formula (1) (wherein A is a benzene ring or a naphthalene ring that may be substituted by a 1-6C alkyl group, n represents a number of 1-15, and m represents 2), and an epoxy resin which is a resin wherein the polyvalent hydroxy resin is epoxidized and represented by general formula (3) (wherein X represents a hydroxy group, a halogen atom, or a 1-6C alkoxy group).
