The device has an elongated actuator (1) whose open position is opposite to a closed position according to an actuation axis (21). A cover (3) includes an access opening (22) to retract the actuator in an end wall in the open position and the closed position. The actuator and an actuating element are mechanically coupled such that angle of rotation of the actuating element about the actuation axis by actuating movement of the actuating element between the closed and open positions is strictly less than angle of rotation of the actuator about an axis by the actuating movement. The actuator ensures the mechanical transmission between the actuating element outside the cover and a locking mechanism mounted on an inside of an upright of the door.
