<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device for controlling an electric power steering, which consumes low current and secures high safety. <P>SOLUTION: When a main power is off, the device for controlling an electric power steering uses a circuit 200 backed up by a battery to intermittently excite a resolver 61 of a brushless motor 6, measures the number of rotation and calculates a steering angle. The circuit switches a cycle of the intermittent excitation of the resolver 61 according to the electromotive voltage of the brushless motor to reduce the consumption current.
