The invention relates to a glass breaking machine through which there is moved a continuous glass sheet (1) which is provided with breaking lines (8) corresponding to the size of the panes to be separated off. The panes are separated off from the glass sheet in the machine by a breaking roller (4) which presses upwards at a breaking line against the pressure of at least one pressure roller or pressure roller arrangement bearing on the top surface. In order to separate off even the zero cut strip located at the leading edge of the glass sheet (1), the invention provides a piston (6) which is arranged directly downstream of the breaking roller in the direction of advance and, during the pressing of the breaking roller (4), presses on the zero cut strip from above so that the latter is then separated off from the glass sheet (1) along a breaking line. <IMAGE>
