A windscreen washer system for motor vehicles is described, in which the contact pressure of the wiper blade against the window to be cleaned can be adjusted while travelling. For this purpose, an adjustment rod which is guided in a bore of the wiper shaft is driven in one of two directions of rotation by an electric motor and derives from the rotational movement of this adjustment rod an adjustment movement of a lever via a helical gear, via which lever the coupling point of the spring relative to the articulation axis between attachment part and articulation part of the wiper arm is adjusted. The contact pressure here is automatically adjusted between a minimum value and a maximum value as a function of certain measured values, for example the travel speed of the motor vehicle, as soon as the wiper operation switch assumes a certain switch position. On the other hand, when the wiper operation switch is switched off, this measured value-dependent adjustment is to be switched off and, instead, a predetermined contact pressure is to be set.
