The invention relates to a brake for the trolley of a drawing machine which has brake shoes which can be pressed by means of an actuating lever from two sides against a stationary part of the drawing machine. In order to provide a brake which is designed in a simple manner and nevertheless makes it possible to exert high braking forces, it is proposed that one of the brake shoes (1) be immovably arranged in a frame (3) which at least partially surrounds the stationary part (2) of the drawing machine and is mounted to be pivotable (13) on the trolley, that the actuating lever (4) be pivotable relative to this frame (3) about an axis (5) perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the fixed part (2), that the second brake shoe be arranged on a resilient element (14) secured on the frame (3), and that a first cam (7) be provided which presses the brake shoe (6) against the spring force towards the fixed part, and that a second cam (8), offset relative to the first cam (7), be provided on the eccentric shaft thereof and be guided in a slot (9) in the actuating lever (4). <IMAGE>
