At least two pieces of wood 18, 20 are joined by wrapping and/or sandwiching a reinforcing woven material around and/or between them and applying an adhesive to the woven material to soak into it. Ideally the reinforcing material is flax in a hopsack weave i.e. each warp or weft yarn is formed from multiple strands. Preferably the wood pieces are bamboo tubes. The joint 16 may include multiple layers of reinforcing fabric oriented in different directions. The joint can be formed in a mould while clamped by a jig. The wood surfaces can be heat treated, corona treated, shot blasted and/or cut to shape. The finished product could be furniture or a bicycle frame. The adhesive can be a SP106 epoxy resin, possibly with a slow hardener.
